Urgently buy a smart home hub from yandex or not
Of course, the Yandex ecosystem is probably the most interesting one in our country, compared to others, because we have other ecosystems especially and their devices are also very difficult to buy, but Yandex, even in this case, does not stand still, it develops there, and this is of course very good, that is, I already constantly observe, there went all the way when Yandex did not know how to do anything at all, there was not even any smart home, but there were just Yandex skills that could be used to manage in a very difficult way, but of course now a smart home has already appeared and new devices are appearing both in the smart home and on sale, smart speakers are becoming more intelligent, from the beginning, of course, it was that wi-fi devices were connected to the ecosystem, it is clear that it is easier to connect them to the cloud, that is, they directly access the cloud and there is no need to buy any local speakers or gateways, this is also more convenient at first, but since the cloud does not always work stably and how practice has shown that it can be blocked at all, when they started making a second Yandex station, they built in a zigbee hub and started connecting devices, while on wi-fi they were Tuya devices, and now on zigbee it is mainly Aqara devices, in fact Xiaomi, then of course this allowed you to normally connect these zigbee devices to this column via zigbee, and there the list is constantly expanding and of course it will be possible to fully use it without buying additional branded gateways just using this Yandex column to do some scenarios for smart communication.
at home, of course, it is not very convenient to program in the ecosystem and it would be nice if an open platform was developed there for configuring and programming the system in the Yandex ecosystem well, it is not there now and therefore the script has to be written only through the application, of course now a separate application is also more comfortable than before it was just search for this tab, that is, it certainly gives more features, a separate application, and in it there are already cameras that can be viewed additionally made, and of course there is the structure itself, it is already more developed, that is, there are separate rooms, there are separate groups of devices and various additional parameters are available in devices, and there are interfaces for management, that is, it is certainly much more convenient and when, in principle, now Yandex has also released an update, that is, they also added a zigbee gateway to the Yandex Max column, and they also released a Yandex Hub that also allows you to connect devices to it, and it seems like this is happiness you can run to buy these devices and everything will work, but most likely not, that is, even though the local work of some scripts is stated there, but the ecosystem is still not completely finished, and yet without any opensource solutions without their own local servers, it is fully possible to make normal home management, and with the ability to copy all this data and there the ability to write complex scripts, make more sophisticated integrations, and not just what it can do itself as a Yandex ecosystem, this of course will require a separate server, and therefore all these built-in zigbee devices, gateways, and separate gateways from Yandex, they are certainly not very useful and there is not much point in purchasing them of course.
For the first there is some, the first sample is possible, there if there is a column and so it turned out that it has a zigbee gateway, you can try to configure something, do the simplest scripts, but still, of course, the plus is that if you switch to an opensource solution later, buy a microcomputer of some kind, there is raspberry or orange or buy a special opensource gateway that also allows you to connect, and in fact the same smart home system is installed, for example Home Assistant, then all these sensors that work on zigbee will certainly be able to reconnect them there, that is, in this plan, of course, nothing will be lost, no sensors will be lost, there is still a valid format ZWave is not compatible with zigbee and in general is essentially a closed ecosystem, and of course if Yandex went this way and started integrating with some other ecosystem like this, then it is questionable what will remain what will win, what format and accordingly it will be difficult to choose and you will need to throw something out, an unnecessary device, or to sell on the cheap, then with zigbee devices, of course, it has almost won, you can say, of course, it has its own problems, not very good compatibility, and logical for the most part, that is, even if the device is connected, it does not mean that it will work as it should work, and let's say two sensors from two different manufacturers are similar, for example, a temperature humidity sensor and one and the other, but they have different parameters and different data there and you will need to for each specific device, write a special driver that will convert the information of this sensor into the necessary formats for a specific smart home system, of course, they write it all there too via the Internet, but again, while it is all supported, while it is all developed, it all lives, at some point in time it may happen there for various reasons.
what can the source code of the system also be the source code of this opensource system also become unavailable, although it is opensource, but it does not mean that someone will always support it for free, at some point there is no time for an enthusiast who mainly promotes this system, he may simply stop developing it, and they may not find other enthusiasts and then the system will also stop developing.
There were a lot of such ecosystems, smart home systems that gradually lagged behind something, they had something flawed there, they could not process some sensors or devices, some integrations were also not fully relevant there, for example, even now everything depends on Home Assistant periodically equals when integrating with zigbee2mqtt, the built-in zigbee integration module - ZHA, not very fast developing and of course if there is zigbee2mqtt at some point something will stop developing there, then these sensors are also not clear how to connect, there are limitations and for example I have a sensor there Aqara fp1, this is a presence sensor in the latest version of zigbee2mqtt it for some reason has it doesn't work for me at all, that is, I had to go back to the old version only in the old version it transmits at least something there, and it also doesn't get full integration, it doesn't transmit all the data, all the information from this sensor is not fully processed, that is, the sensor itself is more advanced there by zones it can the application can show, that is, it can divide the entire area into zones and manage it, then zigbee2mqtt of course does not have this and it cannot do this and will appear someday, it is stated that they sort out the protocol but this protocol is not standardized and accordingly it now works crookedly there and currently does not work at all and such it can happen to anything, so yes, in Yandex, which devices they sell are the simplest, of course they are all connected there, but more complex devices, for example, take the same presence sensor, it will not connect there, because no one will write a driver for it, and there are also big limitations in this regard, and to think that Yandex will finally solve all the problems, there is no such thing, while it is still a commercial product and it is more focused on that to make money and provide more people there with some minimal opportunities that they need now in a smart home.
Not everyone needs there to have some kind of security sensor and process tricky interaction scenarios by zone, so it's easier of course if these sensors are used for example Aqara, then it's probably better just to buy an Aqara gateway and connect it to it all these sensors, they will definitely work there, and the presence sensor will work, and many others, and Xiaomi sensors will work, and the fact that Xiaomi itself integrates a lot there, there are Yeelight devices for example, or there are Philips, some others, IKEA, that is, in principle, they will all be there fully work and so of course there is also much more interesting and in principle from the point of view of writing scripts Xiaomi there is not much worse application, also if it is Aqara it is also added to Apple HomeKit and then there you can also develop in principle good scripts to write and the interface there is also quite developed for managing the smart home system, and many people like it, many are used to this format of work, so it is not necessary that the Yandex column with the zigbee gateway is needed there, you can then simply integrate this ecosystem back through the cloud with Yandex, then you can also control some of the main devices, turn them on, off or watch them.
And of course, sooner or later, all the same, everyone is now thinking about the Matter format, so that at the already logical level, all these devices somehow work uniformly, can integrate and correctly transmit all information about their parameters, but so far this is quite a raw idea, it does not work there, and even Yandex also promises support Matter, but when it will appear is unknown, but it seems like technically all zigbee devices, the firmware can be updated on them and in principle they will also be backward compatible with Matter, that is, they can also be controlled, but in the near future, I still think that the zigbee format is quite good, with its drawbacks, with its own problems, for example, even in some cases I generally prefer just to work on transmitting over the 433 Megahertz radio frequency, because it works reliably, that is, there are no dumps from the gateways or reconnecting to some gateway, you don't need to do anything, just if it appeared in the coverage area, then all the information it is transmitted, everything is accepted, it is clear that it is not protected there definitely strongly, it has no feedback, but this format is also very useful and much easier if there is a switch that works on this radio frequency or there is a remote control, then you just take it and it practically starts to control, you can buy another one if it is broken and everything will also work, that is, each format has its own advantages, communication methods, but also so of course there is Bluetooth, and Matter is trying to link it all together to combine and make it very simple to configure and connect to different ecosystems, but for now this is still a raw technology and of course you will need to develop a smart home in some other ways.
Automation in a smart home should be useful and create additional comfort, but sometimes everything goes wrong… The reasons for this, and how to configure everything, see on my channel.
