How to understand whether a smart home is needed (part 1)

Professionals often offer to buy some kind of smart home system for a bunch of millions, they will then install it, configure it, even work. They talk about all sorts of interfaces, protocols are very reliable that will work forever, what is sold in stores is of course no good at all, usually these are different devices from different manufacturers and even if you bought it these devices, it is not clear what to do with them, that is, to come home to set up, install the application, press which buttons in the application according to the instructions, and it is not clear further what it gives, in general, how to live with it, Of course, no one tells us how long it will take.

If you do it yourself, you immediately start to get scared that you need to know some Linux, you need to understand some protocols, study some different technologies for these devices, and different sensors, study different smart home systems, for example, with different names Home Assistant, OpenHAB, and others, which of course immediately it starts to scare you off if a person is not immersed in these technologies, has not encountered them, and is not a programmer at all, and in order for all this to work, you need to buy some kind of server, install some additional sticks on it, which also need to be flashed in advance, and to do this, you need some kind of special device, and you need to study it all and understand how it works, and sometimes it's just scary to connect these devices to a computer, because you don't know if the device will burn down or the computer will burn down, and of course you need to take a careful approach every time, remember how electricity works, how they work. all the circuits are electrical, what can be done, what can not be done, of course, everything needs to be studied.

And even of course, once I set it all up, I still need to understand how it will all work together, what different interfaces are needed, how to configure them, how to connect different ecosystems, how to write scripts, how to come up with names for these scenarios, that's a lot of things, and of course a person who is not immersed it will be very difficult for him to figure out such things, but even if a person is a programmer, or some kind of computer scientist who understands how it all works and even maybe he has a special education, Even in this case, it's not always easy to figure it out and you need to spend a lot of time trying to figure out how it's supposed to work.

When I bought an air conditioner, it is installed by special installers, professionals, and not by a person who installs it for himself, because everything must work correctly, you need to have a special tool, you need to have special knowledge, understand how it works, or if, for example, you need to make electrical wiring in an apartment or change it somehow, you also need it accordingly some kind of professional electrician who understands which wire is needed, which machines, which switches, which different connectors to use, so of course not everyone can do it, or even if we assume to install some kind of water meter, it is clear that initially they are also installed by a plumber who knows how to screw it on correctly, and in principle even has to understand and have a special license for this.

Of course, all these technologies that are now used in everyday life, they have already appeared a long time ago, everyone has already got used to them, and of course this is already a certain minimum that no one wants to live without, because, for example, hardly anyone wants to boil water in a saucepan in order to wash, or No one does this anymore, sitting in the dark or going to the TV and pressing the button manually to switch channels.

Of course, it's hard to say when a smart home will become mandatory, even 50 years ago washing machines, dishwashers, electric kettles and other devices were invented, a TV remote control was also invented, of course, all this is already familiar, they are already used to using all this, of course there is no doubt, no one wants to give up such devices, and it's certainly convenient.

But new technologies, of course, are difficult for them to enter, for example, I have long wanted to buy a robot vacuum cleaner, but there is one problem that it just doesn't really have anywhere to go, and it will just get stuck in the next corner, because you need to free up the floor everywhere, you need to figure out where to put its station so that it can drive there I just don't have enough space for the vacuum cleaner to turn around, of course, someday, when there is a robot vacuum cleaner in the next apartment or in the next house, you can think in advance that there will probably be a robot vacuum cleaner, it will probably drive somehow and everyone will count on it, but in modern homes it probably won't appear soon, and even those who use it who I've already bought vacuum cleaners, they don't use them at full capacity anyway, because you still need the apartment or house to be designed for this.

When I bought the Yandex Station, the speaker, of course, it was also unusual to use my voice, but then gradually I started turning on the music first, then asking for the weather, then when the devices appeared, I started giving one voice command, another voice command, they are of course quite complex and I can't remember all of them at once, but gradually it turns out that this it's quite convenient, that is, sometimes you don't have to come up once again, once again look for a remote control or some kind of button, and in principle it's much easier to say it with your voice, and so you gradually get used to it, and in principle, this device begins to be used quite often, and this is a way to communicate with a smart home.

For example, when I automated the water meter, of course, I haven't seen the meter live for probably six months, and it normally transmits values, and I can safely count them, already in the smart home system, when I need it anywhere, especially when I receive a reminder from the management company that I already need to pay Of course, this greatly simplifies life, and you don't have to pick up your phone every time, go to the toilet or bathroom, open the hatch, turn on the flash on your phone, take pictures, then close them, then go and look at what was photographed on your phone, and then this figure is already being driven into some kind of system for giving readings, of course, it is much more convenient to simply see this figure in the smart home system.

But of course, it would be very good, as it already works for some, that it is automatically assembled, in principle, all meters have been designed for this for a long time, the management company has already installed some special module that collects readings from these meters and is automatically assembled, but this is also, in principle, already some element of a smart home.

In principle, there are of course a lot of such elements of a smart home, for example, an air conditioner automatically regulates the temperature, maintains it at a certain level, you can set different parameters on it depending on the time of day, or under some other conditions, for example, underfloor heating is also an element of a smart home, it also maintains a certain temperature, but of course it cannot automatically measure, well, there are even such thermostats that can measure the air temperature and adjust to it, and not just to the temperature of the floor itself, and of course, this is also considered part of a smart home, some smart functions, and of course, gradually you start to get used to such functions, someone puts more intercoms that allow you to watch who came there through some kind of video screen, or even there are even more advanced intercoms that can see through a special It's not an app, but it's also a piece of a smart home, and of course it would be nice to integrate it all into one system.

As for the price, of course, all these devices for smart homes, and smart thermostats, and other smart devices, in principle, are not much more expensive than conventional thermostats or devices, so of course you can immediately take and buy smarter devices, it is advisable, of course, to determine the communication protocol, but in principle, even if it is Wi-FiFi, it doesn't matter, there is another format for information exchange, then, of course, it is possible to integrate any such device into a smart home, if such a need arises.

Automation in a smart home should be useful and create additional comfort, but sometimes everything goes wrong… The reasons for this, and how to configure everything, see on my channel.
