How to control heating in a smart home
day 1558 Alex is in touch This year I use as an additional heater a regular radiator connected to a smart outlet I made a thermostat based on a smart outlet that works from a smart home system and accordingly turns the heater on or off depending on the temperature in the room for the temperature in the room I use Xiaomi sensors a temperature and humidity sensor the outlet is used I had the socket hang up and stopped turning on and on and it remained in the on state and at the same time the heater worked almost all day of course the temperature in the room it was very high which was not comfortable at all and even the fact that the temperature sensor was already higher than the installed outlet did not turn off and the smart home system also could not understand what to turn off because the outlet simply did not transmit the status to the smart home system there that it was turned on I was made so the start signal is checked and the current state is checked if the state is turned on and the temperature in the room is higher than set in this case the smart home system sends signals to the outlet If the temperature is higher and the outlet is already turned off then the signal is not sent again because otherwise it would be possible to just constantly send a signal with some frequency the automation system itself checks the statuses of all 10 seconds so every 10 seconds information would be sent that you need to turn off the outlet this is of course probably not critical but it just clogs all traffic and of course you should not I use monitoring of the current state of the device and this sometimes causes problems in this case I have a heater it is powered by this outlet it is set to the minimum heating temperature that is the minimum the power on it is three modes of power the first is 700 watts 2 is 13 watts and two kilowatts are included together Of course I can't completely trust the outlets at all because there may be different cases maybe just for the relay inside the outlet if the outlet is no longer new or the power that is used is connected it is close to the maximum even what is indicated on the outlet 16 amps is still quite a lot and it is better to use a much weaker device and the heater does not work at my maximum peak every problem can be on the part of the temperature sensor I have a zigbe sensor from Xiaomi at some point stopped working correctly began to send the smart home system 55 and 50 Degrees It just lasted continuously for hours the same important 55 percent what is it connected with is unclear the battery was in principle quite good condition and of course I have a system it just turned off the heater and did not turn on I of course realized that this is how it works when it became cold enough in the room and I saw that for several hours the sensor always has two values And it works cr2032 batteries of course the power of this battery for so many gears it is not enough and the thermometer itself constantly fell asleep To somehow restore energy also several times faced when just the heater was turned off from the outlet And despite this the heating system tried to turn on the outlet tried to heat the room but of course it was not possible to make some control so that the smart home system also tracked energy consumption the fact that something is wrong with the heater or it is out of order or it was pulled out of the socket physically or it was switched to the mode it is now in the off mode as well often I found errors in scenarios when I have for example from time to time I set up So that my heater works and maintains the temperature during the day above [music] at night below there are errors when I have for example incorrectly specified the time and in which are night and accordingly the heater just did the wrong actions at the wrong time heated the room is not needed then and I also make sure that the heater does not work at a time when no one is at home for example on the balcony I also use two heaters in addition they are more used in the off season When you need to warm up the balcony to a comfortable temperature now in winter my heaters keep the minimum temperature on the balcony so that it is not lower than 0 now I have one heater maintains the temperature of 4 degrees on the balcony and if the temperature drops below it quickly heats the room back to 4 or 5 degrees used If the temperature is higher than set then the socket turns off if the temperature is lower than set it turns on because the temperature sensors have a large delay in sending they send if the temperature changes by more than half a degree or humidity if it changes by more than five percent and also send the value Once an hour once about 55 minutes So if the temperature was 25 and 9 degrees when heating, then the next trigger will occur either after 55 minutes or when the temperature becomes 26.4 degrees so you don't need it-because of this it turns out that a sufficiently large temperature difference in the room occurs half a degree This is of course not critical but the heater itself works long enough it turns out and of course it becomes very hot if you are close to it on the street radiators additionally have of course a temperature sensor but it is actually firstly not set to a certain temperature and of course It shows more the temperature of the heater than the temperature in the room and if for example the heater is at a higher power, then because of this it heats up very quickly and overheats itself and turns off so I use the minimum temperature in order to warm up the room additionally if there is not enough heating from other sources for example I monitored how long it takes to heat up and cool down for the entire cycle they take about an hour and a half, that is, for half an hour, the heater even at a power of 700 Watts heats the room and then the room cools back to half a degree within an hour. I also use a similar algorithm of operation for the electric underfloor heating system, I had the simplest thermostats installed that simply set the temperature manually, you can set it manually, and this is not in degrees and just divisions and in order to make it a little smart I used relays which are installed on the wire that goes from the meter and from the machine in the electrical panel and including turning on the switch panel I turn on the underfloor heating at the right time and it just heats up and maintains the temperature that is mechanically installed on it
Automation in a smart home should be useful and create additional comfort, but sometimes everything goes wrong… The reasons for this, and how to configure everything, see on my channel.
